Several years ago and soon after I learnt of the internet I began to wonder whether there was much possibility of making money online. At first I thought about it from the point of view of just supplementing my income but I soon discovered that some folks were making their living exclusively online with some actually making small fortunes at it!
Enthused with the idea of being my own boss I began to investigate the various ways the succesful folks were making money online and I had the good fortune to meet with several successful online entrepreneurs who had different approaches, products and services to offer. Here are some of the ideas we discussed and which are still making good money;
Selling Goods or Services Online
You can sell your products or services from a website and can even use good old Paypal to take credit card payments easily without the need for setting up merchant acounts. The range of goods and services sold varies wildly, just browse over auction sites like eBay for a feel of the diversity of stuff sold everyday.
If you don’t have a product to sell then consider getting resale rights to something! Resale rights give you the rights to market a product as your own. Many resale programs come with ready made marketing materials and even complete websites all ready for you to start operating for yourself.
You might also want to consider drop-shipping – this is where you sell a wholesalers product on eBay for example and have them deliver the item to the buyer. No handling of orders for you, just pocket the difference between the selling price and the drop-shippers price!
Affiliate Marketing
How about marketing someone else’s goods for a commission? This has become a massive industry over the last several years. Basically you market a product on your website using a customised link to the sellers website. That special link carries an account number which identifies you as the affiliate responsible for bringing in the traffic and subsequent sales. Clickbank (largely digital products) and Commission Junction are two great examples of affiliate networks which are both diverse in product range and proven to be reliable.
Writing Articles and/or Blogs
Like writing? Got a hobby you’re passionate about? Another great way to make money online is to write. You can get paid for the articles themselves on sites like eLance or you can publish your thoughts in a blog just like this one and carry ads in return for a fee. You can also carry some Google adsense links (the Google ads you see here), they make it extremely easy to signup for the program and can have you carrying their ads in minutes. The ads will be selected by Google to fit with the content of your website so whether you wish to write about fishing or business they can provide you with the right ads and they share their revenue with you.
Telecommuting
Last Some companies have administration and secretarial type work which can be done remotely as an employee of a company. Others contract on a project basis on jobs from software programming to secretarial. Keep your eyes peeled for ads for this type of work on sites like eLance.com which has a huge range of projects you can bid on. These projects may involve design work, sales and marketing, media, writing articles, research and too many more to list here.
