Motivation and How to Maintain It

Along the way you’ll certainly have your share of discouraging times when staying motivated is challenging. This is quite normal and felt by just about everybody from time to time. There are some techniques that can help keep that motivation up, techniques that can be used by anybody.

To Do lists
Everyone should use them. Any number of studies show time and again how writing down the days tasks helps to keep you focused and moving on them. Chat with a successful business owner and chances are they’ll verify this as one of their key work practices.

Make your Goals Visual Ones
A goal you can visualise will help. If you’re thinking ahead to a new car or boat try to visualise yourself in it. Maybe take a photo and put it somewhere near your desk so you can remind yourself at a glance what you are aiming for. Better still why not keep a scrapbook of all the things you wish for so that a flick through its pages gives you that little reminder of what it is all about. Picture yourself as already successful and you’ll sail through the day.

Make a Deal with Yourself
Provide a little self incentive by promising yourself some little reward e.g. if I complete all these tasks today I’ll open that nice bottle of red tonight! It is quite amazing what a little challenge with a reward attached can do to help you move things along.

Associate with Positive People and Read Inspiring Books
Time spent with self motivated, forward thinking people is good for the soul. Just being around such people tends to energise you. Get into a conversation with them and see how they think, how they are constantly thinking on how to get the best from any situation they are in. The same applies to reading about other peoples success, so often the success stems from a simple idea. Reading of successes like that help to keep you focused. Make it Happen – Killing Indecision
Possibly the biggest enemy is the dual one of indecision and inaction. Fussing endlessly over decisions is counterproductive. Make a decision, then as a certain sportswear manufacturer says, just do it. Action speaks louder than words and is far better than inaction. By keeping yourself busy you are actually keeping your gray matter active and preventing boredom staleness.
