How to Start a Photography Business

Got a good camera and a PC? You could start a photography business and have your own business as a photographer and enjoy working from home. There are so many opportunities for different types and styles of photography from advertising to portraits to pets, you are never going to run out of angles from which to approach this activity.

You can choose to specialize but don’t make the mistake of allowing yourself to get so specialized as to miss out on other rewarding areas of photography. It’s important to have more than one string to your bow so you don’t become over dependent on one channel.

Trap Tip Off: Beware the wedding photography market – it is fraught with danger such as lawsuits for mishaps and many think of it as being far too much effort and stress to be worthwhile.

Got the right Domain Name for your website?

While most of us have concentrated on building websites with TLDs (top level domains) .com, .net or various country versions it looks like a whole raft of top level domains are to become available soon.

ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is expected to vote this week to allow generic words such as ‘love’ or even ‘hate’ to be used as TLDs. Firms would even be able to register their own name as a TLD.

Prices for these are likely to be out of the range of most of us, maybe as large as $50,000 but large companies will probably spend up big for branding reasons. I guess those with registered trademarks and worldwide brands will want to take advantage.

.im or .homebusiness anyone?

Changes at eBay?

If you are an ebay seller you might want to be aware of changes ahead such as the news that ebay is to phase out Third Party Checkout systems often used by powersellers.

Systems such as Marketplace Advisor which help sellers with listings and inventory management and of course upsells are to be phased out within the next 12 months. All vendors will be required to use ebays own checkout.

So far there seems no danger of the unpopular ‘paypal only’ payment requirement being adapted outside Australia. Aussie sellers are still fighting for the right to retain bank transfers as a payment option and angry sellers have even got the national consumer watchdog involved. The change has been delayed a further month.
