You would then have a portfolio to show potential customers and make some money from your own sites in the meantime! If you are stuck for affiliate programs you can always host contextual ads like adsense type ads. Remember when it comes to building websites for others, some advertising is free or low cost, notice boards and local business networking meetings for example. Maybe consider doing a freebie for a local charity or junior sports team too, you might be surprised at how word spreads around the community about your work when you do this sort of thing.
