Make Money on eBay – Picking Profitable Products

To make money on eBay there are several factors to consider and many sellers will tell you if you want to make decent returns without stress you must think of these particularly:

Is the product something not easily and cheaply purchased in a local store? The more commonplace the item the less your chances of selling yours at a good profit margin. Some of the best selling items on eBay are collectibles and antiques for this very reason.

Is your product in demand enough to start at a low price and allow competition between bidders to rise the eventual selling price for you? There is a lot of evidence that low starting prices attract more interest and therefore higher winning bids.

Is the likely profit margin enough to allow for the occasional poor auction result? You don’t want to sweat on the results of every auction. The cheaper you source your items the greater your chance of profits. Source collectibles and antiques at deceased estate sales and even garage sales for next to nothing and make excellent returns on eBay.

Is it easy to handle and ship the goods to the auction winner? The more time and effort you have to put into this element the less time and motivation you’ll have for repeating the success of the first sale. Try to stick to easily handled items that you can use pre-paid mailing for if possible.

eBay Scams to be wary of

As great an opportunity as eBay is, there are also some eBay scams to watch out for if you’re trying to make a business out of it:

Bid Rigging or Shielding – in this scam, either two bidders work together, or one bidder using two accounts, rigs the outcome of an auction. One bids low on your item then soon after the other bids unrealistically high say two or three times the value of the item. The high bid prevents anyone else from making a competitive bid but of course that bidder backs out before payment time. You’re now left with just the low bid to sell to! This is one of the reasons why using a reserve is a good idea. Read More…

Tips and Tactics for Ebay

Hundreds of thousands of home businesses worldwide are based on ebay and other online auction sales and the number of fulltime ebay merchants is still growing. The range of products for sale is mind-blowing, everything from broken toys to aircraft can and have been sold on ebay alone. Pretty much everything tangible is of value to someone, somewhere and the best sellers are those who know how to spot a value gap. That is to say, they know a bargain when they see it because they know others are willing to pay more than that bargain price they themselves are paying.

Most ebay sellers start out small, perhaps selling some unwanted household item or similar before becoming hooked on the joy of selling something for a profit. Some move on to seek out items at weekend markets or garage sales with the intention of turning a profit at auction and of course most professional ebay sellers are selling their own products or are reselling products from wholesalers and dropshippers. Many sellers are selling second hand goods which they have restored or improved in some way specifically for ebay.
